Survanta (beractant) is a life-saving pulmonary surfactant used to treat and prevent Respiratory Distress Syndrome (RDS) in premature infants. It works by providing a replacement for the natural surfactant that is missing in the underdeveloped lungs of these babies, helping the air sacs to stay open and making breathing easier.
